The connection between happiness, architecture and books

Not your average library. Looks more like an ultra modern space vessel. With a really cozy cafe inside of course. Of course you would want a cafe on your spaceship. Who would go on it otherwise? Just kidding of course. But yes a cozy cafe would make a trip to space more appealing to me for sure. Otherwise I would prefer to stretch under the sun on our home planet. I thrive on sunshine.

Coming back to the library I am talking about. It's the national library in Doha. The National Library of Qatar with its official name. And it is gorgeous. And no, this is not an ad, I am not sponsored, unfortunately and nobody is paying me to write this - again. I have been living in Doha for almost 3 years and as I had mentioned before, there are a lot of things about this place that impress and awe me. I feel this country should be a blueprint in many ways for any other country that wants to build up its society based on science, aesthetics and rationality. If you want stone age style thinking, you need to go somewhere else. The leaders of Qatar, hail the women pioneering the process, are very futuristic and scientific in their thinking. No, I'm not sponsored.

Who would set up a library so impressive, so beautiful and so fun other than a leader/leaders who want to invest in the people?

To summarize, for those of you who haven't seen the place, Qatar has built an entire education city within its capital city Doha. This education city is a massive compound comprising of branches of leading universities such as Weill Cornell, numerous facilities that I cannot cite here and a huge library with a massive collection of books. I often tell people to visit the place even if they don't like to read, just to breathe in the atmosphere. I also joke that he who doesn't like to read will feel compelled to do so after seeing the place. I am sure such a person would at least borrow books with pretty covers just to admire them at home.

My 3 year old daughter is a fan of the place because of the beautiful kids` section. Applause. Collecting  a huge array of literature for children and making the idea of learning fun. After all, what does Jung say? `He who doesn't want to think judges easily because it is easier`. Or something along those lines. That's the gist of it. Get them to use their brains.

And no trip to the library is complete without a coffee at `Safahat` - the coffee shop where you can sway on the cozy swings enjoying the sun pouring in through the massive glass exteriors. Truly `safahat`.
